About Faultlinemusic

Faultlinemusic has existed in one shape or form since 1998.  In the beginning it was the name for a DJ company with Justin Sehorn and myself.  The two of us started with a home stereo, basic speakers, a desktop PC, CRT monitor, and some basic lights.  The first DJ gig was for a 6th grade dance at our local middle school.  It was all digital MP3 music, which at the time, was unseen.  This gave us a taste for making money in the music business.  Over the next few years and while we were finishing high school, it grew to be a solid business.  A few more school dances, some birthday parties, and plenty of house parties.  The gear was upgraded to an actual PA system with some solid speakers.  The lights grew into a full portable truss system with centerpiece lights, music controlled spots, and the stereo-typical fog machine and mirror ball.  For two years following high school graduation Faultlinemusic hosted and helped with many parties.  Including having bands and combining house parties with rock shows.

In 2002 Justin and I and other band mates made the move to St Paul, MN to attend Musictech College, now named McNally-Smith College of Music.  There Justin completed the Audio Engineering program with a Live Sound emphasis and I completed the Audio Engineering program with Studio emphasis.  We were lucky to be lab partners in many classes and a team in Live Sound running sessions and live events together.  During that time I had been freelancing in website creation and support for some small businesses, bands, and music artists.  I also worked sound boards for some music showcase events, a few weddings, and other smaller functions.  I was also contracted to design and build the set and run sound for a local MN high school's presentation of Anything Goes.

Upon graduation I moved back to the KC area and Justin stayed up north.  At the time in 2004 many studios were closing or downsizing due to music industry recession.  Finding a paying job in the industry was difficult.  At that time I went back to my roots of computer sales and support.  I worked for Best Buy and Geek Squad for two years.  At that time Faultlinemusic fell to the back burner, however, I could never let myself lose the domain name.  In 2006 I took a full time position with Freeland Photography.  I had built the first website for the company in 1997 and was one of the first studios in America to offer online proofing of images.  Over the last five years I held that position and did all kinds of things for the business.  Including: Image Post Production, Website Administration, Developing Business Strategies, Network and Server Deployment and Management, DVD Creation, Blu Ray Authoring, Video Optimization for Web and Mobile devices, and many other things.  I also spent time running a Photobooth at weddings and other events.  This gave me great insight into the event business.  After going to over a dozen events I decided that it was time to get back into the music business.

This leads me to today.  The desire to work with music again combined with the knowledge and experience gained since we first began over 10 years ago.  I plan to get back to doing what I love while providing a fair and professional service to the Kansas City Greater Area.  This is my story and I have met some cool people along the way.  If you are in the Twin Cities area you may have already seen Justin running sound, participating in art events, or playing in his band.
